So no mama births alone: Join our team of Mother Companions
Our Mother Companion team are looking to recruit new volunteers to join this essential service. Mother Companions provide specialist one-to-one support to our mamas, through pregnancy, labour, birth and early parenting.
At present, we are looking to recruit Birth Mother Companions, to ensure that no mama births alone. Birth Mother Companions play an important role in supporting our mothers, ensuring that they feel safe, nurtured and reassured during labour and birth.
This is an incredibly rewarding role, in which, as part of a team, you are able to offer crucial support to women and birthing people who would otherwise be in the birth room alone.
To be eligible you have:
Completed a comprehensive doula training programme, be a midwife or have other comparable birth room experience;
Have attended a minimum of 3 births;
Be willing to undertake an enhanced DBS check;
Have a non-judgemental and holistic approach to providing support to women from diverse backgrounds;
Be committed to supporting a minimum of two births with Project MAMA over a 1 year period;
You can commit to attending MC team meetings every 6 weeks;
Have a commitment to social justice and encourage resilience in others.
We offer
A solid support system for all volunteers, with trained staff and peer support
Full induction to the role
Training opportunities, including Make Birth Better training (bespoke birth trauma training), specialist safeguarding training, Cultural Safety training, Perinatal Mental Health, among others.
Working as part of a team, sharing rota responsibilities with at least 3 other volunteers and staff members.
