We are recruiting Trustees for our Board at Project MAMA

As we expand, we are seeking three individuals with a commitment to gender equality and migrant rights to join our existing board.  We are looking for trustees who share the ethos of Project MAMA and are keen to support our work as we continue to grow.

The ideal candidates additionally have knowledge and understanding in migration and/or asylum policy and/or knowledge of the migrant experience and migrant organisations local to Bristol and further afield.

We ask our trustees to play an active role in our four annual meetings, usually taking place on Wednesday afternoons from our office in Easton, Bristol as well as our Annual General Meeting. We additionally request  1-2 days’ commitment per month to support the running of the organisation from Project MAMA Headquarters, 

All Project MAMA’s work and strategy is overseen by a voluntary Board of Trustees.  We are currently seeking three new members of this Board:

Fundraising Trustee

The Fundraising Trustee will bring senior level experience to the board, ensuring that fundraising standards are in line with the high expectations
of the charity’s donors and the wider public.  A Trustee with strong understanding of writing successful funding proposals and reporting financial information to decision-making boards.


The Treasurer’s role is to liaise with the finance team and the coordinator to advise and guide the Board on their financial planning and
strategy. The Treasurer is the leading interface between Trustees and management on financial matters.

Organisational Development Trustee

The Organisational Development trustee will actively contribute to setting policy and strategic direction, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance.

All successful applicants will:  

  • Be required to undergo an DBS check  
  • Be required to provide two references  
  • Be required to sign an agreement around confidentiality  
  • Be able to commit to at least 1 year as a board member

We are especially interested in receiving applications from refugees and others who have had direct experience of the UK’s asylum system.

We are able to meet travel costs associated with attending Board meetings.

Volunteer as a Mother Companion with Project MAMA

We are also growing and are recruiting more volunteer Mother Companions!

To become part of our growing team, we ask that you:

  • Have completed a comprehensive doula training program, be a midwife or have other comparable birth room experience;
  • Have attended a minimum of 3 births;
  • Be willing to undertake an enhanced DBS check;
  • Have a non-judgemental and holistic approach to providing support to women from diverse backgrounds;
  • Be committed to supporting a minimum of two births with Project MAMA over a 1 year period;
  • Have a commitment to social justice and encourage resilience in others.
